So, yeah, it's been a while...
Some sad news first. We lost our beloved husband and father, AxlBlue, very suddenly and very unexpectedly, this past month. So I've been taking some time off with the children. But since I'm up and it is AureliaBluesDayTuesday (every Tuesday is, right?), and I know he would have loved this little tidbit of recent news regarding the horned sea monster in Spain... read about it here and the subsequent, and admittedly, just plain sad explanation...you can read that here ...I must reopen our discussion on sea monsters.
So tell me, Young Lovers, what do you think it really is? A shark? Or something else...
The discussion is now open:
I think it sounds like complete rubbish. If you read the explanation, the shark experts don't even really sound that convinced.
ReplyDelete“The elements toward the back were confusing me, but those are the lower caudal fin supports."
Confusing?
"The ‘horns’ are the scapulocoracoids, which support the pectoral fins.”
Yes, that clearly explains why they were growing out of the beast's head - because that's where we all have our pectoral muscles. I really wish they had gotten a better picture of the creature's head from the front. Why would they not think to do that with something so odd looking?
"The lower elements do look like elasmobranch [shark] vertebrae. Probably some type of shark.”
Probably?
“It’s a shark skeleton, species unknown without better study.”
Are they going to study it? Or are they claiming they don't have enough money for DNA testing like they were saying in the original article? If you were a scientist, wouldn't you be tripping all over yourself to study such a weird looking creature that the shark experts say they 'think' is 'probably' a shark? It takes a lot less than that for scientists to pull out their microscopes. They're always studying new insects and whatnot that they find - why should this be any different? Something about this whole 'tale' just sounds 'fishy' to me.
Okay, those were awful - sorry, I'm nursing my first cup of coffee now and not quite awake.
I'm not satisfied with the answer. I'm going to choose to believe it is some mystical creature. To me, it looks like a water dragon, with its serpentine body and horns. What does it look like to you?
It looks like a water Unicorn to me. There's one just like it in my Unicorn Princess. I just wish AxlBlue had lived to see it. Heck, he probably rides one now, lol.
DeleteI wouldn't doubt it ♥
